JPARC.ONLINE

JPARC (Japanese Performing Arts Research Consortium) is a non-commercial, independent, web-based forum dedicated to the study and dissemination of Japanese performing arts. It consists of two main elements:

1. A consortium of scholars – Core members are affiliated with institutions including Ritsumeikan University, Hōsei University, Cornell University, Kyoto Sangyō University, and the University of California, Santa Barbara. The consortium is governed by an international board of directors and supported by members who contribute research materials.

2. A publicly accessible website – Serving as a resource for researchers, students, teachers, and practitioners, the site offers:

• Scholarly essays with multimedia content

• A database of photographs, audiovisuals, and ephemera

• A platform for publishing and discussion

The website is primarily in English with Japanese titles and terms. Content is organized by genre (nōgaku, kabuki, bunraku, etc.), enriched with bilingual texts, multimedia, and reference materials, and supports cross-genre comparative research.
